We have an exciting opportunity for highly motivated, independent individuals to fill up to two time-duration positions within the Parks Department. The term of these positions will be from May 13, 2024 to August 23, 2024.  The regular hours of work are 7.5 hours per day, scheduled between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
 
As a Parks Student at the FVRD, a typical week could see you assisting the Parks team with routine park maintenance, parks security and public relations.  Duties include grounds and building maintenance; trail grooming; janitorial services; minor carpentry/construction; painting and park inspections; and enforcing rules for safety and security in our parks. Experience driving large trucks and/or trailers is an asset.

The ideal candidate must have:

  • Currently attending or enrolled in the next semester of a secondary or post-secondary educational program, full or part-time, or have attended full or part-time, in the last academic year
  • Must be physically fit and able to work outdoors in all types of weather
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision and work well as part of a small team
  • Must have excellent communication skills including presentation and conflict resolution skills and must be able to communicate effectively with members of the public, co-workers and supervisor
  • Must be competent to safely handle and work with the quipment and tools required for the assigned duties including but not limited to gas powered brush saws, circular saws, grass trimmers and lawnmowers
  • General carpentry, construction, painting experience is desirable
  • Must possess a valid Driver’s Licence

 
The wage rate for this Union position is $17.70 per hour plus 16% in lieu of benefits.
